Conservation and Consumption

Iguanas are playful.
You can "wear" them if you support them and are careful of their claws.
Why do Iguanas make good pets?
  • Easy to feed
  • Easy to make good cages for them
  • Very durable
  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to train
  • Lively if fed well
  • You can interact with them easily
  • If you watch them you can see their "personality"
  • They have a long life span so they will be with you for a long time

How do you feed them?
  • Feed them lots of fruits and vegetables
  • They need a supply of protein such as scrambled eggs or meat
  • They will eat anything humans eat
  • They can go without food for about a month if necessary
  • Collard greens are nutritionally one of the best foods for them
  • They love to eat strawberries and other sugary fruits

Iguanas like to eat greens like cilantro or collard greens.
Iguanas love to climb to the highest place they can see, because they "own" what they see.
Where would you keep one?
  • They need lots of places to climb
  • They need to have a water source
  • The cage should be at least as high as they are long
  • They should have a UV lamp of some sort unless they are outside
  • They should have a heat source, preferably a heat lamp, not a rock
  • Use wood chips, sand, or another natural material as the floor
  • They can grow to be six feet in length so be ready to expand
